New Logo and Identity for TransferWise by venturethree

"TransferWise is the clever new way to send money abroad. They're a peer-to-peer money transfer service launched in January 2011 by the people who built Skype. They're an antidote to greedy banks and their hidden fees, choosing to only charge 0.5% instead. They won the Financial Times Boldness In Business 2014 award, and recently received a $25m investment from Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures, Index Ventures, IA Ventures, Sir Richard Branson and other high profile technology investors."

Design by: venturethree (London)

Opinion/Notes: I guess when Ubuntu called asking for their logo back, TransferWise picked up the phone and said, yes, we'll send it right over. Understandably, the old logo was about the idea of connecting people and letting them wire money easily — still, a fairly generic-looking logo. The new logo has a small flag for an icon and a butchered sans serif for a wordmark. I kind of like the icon, but it also feels a bit generic and I could easily wire that typography to the bottom of the ocean. Those "e"s. Why? In application, the identity is cool-looking with all the diagonals and I would even venture out to say that it might be too cool for this kind of business; almost feels out of place.

Select Quote: The "fast flag" symbol represents a new borderless world for money. It signals the revolutionary spirit and speed of the TransferWise service, as well as its growing global profile.

I am extremely humbled to announce that I was selected as the winner of the 2014 Newcastle Young Alumni Award which is a true honor, especially considering the calibre of the other nominees and finalists coming from the fields of medicine, engineering, biochemistry and more. There are a few snaps below and more found on Facebook.

The University of Newcastle 39th Annual Alumni Awards recognises “innovation, creativity, exceptional leadership and those who inspire others through their local, national and international achievements.”

There are 8 separate categories under the Alumni Awards and all of them “celebrate gamechangers – the unconventional thinkers, the challengers, the people who push boundaries and see possibilities”.

The Young Alumni Award in particular recognises “outstanding professional achievements and contributions by a graduate aged 35 years or younger at the time of nomination” in which I was the final recipient. Hooray!
