Opinion/Notes: We can all agree that there is enough blackletter newspaper logos in the world that if one of them goes out of print the world won't end. (This was a particularly nice blackletter logo, with a lovely "a".) But to kill it in exchange for something this insipid is worth getting upset about. The "river" shape is unattractive and the typography is antiquated (in the wrong way). The newspaper now looks cheap too, overall, with the heavy sans serif headlines and overuse of boxes. Just… not a good day to be a newspaper. Judging from the quote above, the Gazette might have been too starstruck by the pre-eminence and powerhouse-ness of its consultants to notice the sub-par product they got.
